Re: thoughts
it's pretty easy :-)
1) define what you want your cast to be about so it has some direction
2) get hardware and software you need if you don't already have them
(a recording program for your computer and a mic is all you need to start.
I suggest Audacity, the free recording program and the Levelator to keep
your sound levels even)
3) get it on the web. I suggest hosts that not only host your audio files but
publish them directly. My podcast Ravencast runs on Podbean.com and
I HIGHLY recommend them if you want people to be able comment directly
on your site. Spoken Lore is run on GoDaddy.com's quick podcast system.
As advertised it's quick (they stayed on the phone with me until it was set
up, maybe 5-10 min.) and easy but it's not a blog format so no commenting
and very little customization is available
4) Join other groups like this ~ The Proud Pagan Podcasters group is the best
out there :-)
5) get listed on Podcast Pickle, Podcast Alley, Odeo, Podfeed.net, Podblaster,
and any other podcast directory you can google.
6) start a word of mouth campaign. Everyother other podcast or so ask the
people listening to tell a friend about the podcast
7) publish your cast on a consistant basis - every day, week, month whatever
as long as your listeners know they can count on you to deliver at a specific
time.
8) HAVE FUN!!!! :-)
This is all probably more than you wanted/needed but hey . . . . .
good Luck to you,
Sandi

Re: thoughts
There was a tutorial kind of thing I used that I found on the iTunes website when I started. It showed how to set up the rss.xml file and that is the most basic need, plus a place to upload them. I also use GoDaddy, but I started it before there was a podcast system... I'm going to have to check that out!

Re: thoughts
Thanks for the advice, Sandi and Wynyfryd.I think I have a mental block when it comes to rss feeds. I try to get them past that rss validator thingie and end up getting frustrated. One of my coworkers usually then has to help until it goes through and, by the time its all over, I still don't know how to get it on the web.The recording part, I adore. I've worked in radio before and I kind of slip right back into that "mode." And Audacity's so easy to use, its really a pleasure.
Can y'all recommend some texts (book form--just a preferrence) that explain rss feeds in a way that a dufus like me can understand?
Many thanks!Stash

Re: thoughts
The two books I liked alot, even though they are a bit older at this point, were:
Podcasting:the do-it-yourself guide by Todd Cochrane
Secrets of Podcasting by Bart G. Farkas
